48 in 24…
Movement has always been the cornerstone of our fundraising initiatives, specifically running. From “Running For Something,” which started it all to the last big undertaking, “Ten in Ten.” We use running and these programs to not only raise funds, but to bring awareness to the issues we face here in Chicago and beyond. One of the main issues that is becoming even more pressing is food insecurity.
This brings us to the latest and most ambitious “Running for Something” fundraising campaign, 48 in 24. Once again, our Executive Director will be using miles to bring awareness to an issue that affects every corner of our country, hunger.
48 in 24 is all about showing hunger across the continental US. Chris will be running 48 half marathons, across 48 states in 24 months. Each run will be accompanied with a visit to a local food bank or pantry to not only document the effect the shrinking social net has on our communities, but hopefully provide answers and solutions on how we can all fight back against this growing issue. There is no one face, there is no one scenario, hunger is a problem that too many people are facing and I want our communities to know, we are in this together. 1 in 5 households in Cook County alone are experiencing food insecurity, 1 in 4 that have school aged children! This is something we have to fight head on and we invite you all to share in this journey for understanding and, above all, the search for solutions. We will be documenting the journey through YouTube and our social media channels, with the aim of producing a documentary at the end.
Here’s how YOU can help on this journey. As always you can follow us on our social media (links below) and like, share and comment any advice or encouragement. You can sponsor all or parts of any of the runs, tell every single person you know to raise awareness, and as always you can donate using the buttons below. These funds raised will be used to strengthen our food programs here in our city, and make sure that we are rising to the occasion for our neighbors. This is an important time in our country, we have to mobilize and meet the moment. Here’s to an exciting, educational and fruitful journey over the next 24 months!
