Over 15 years ago, two close friends and I tossed around an idea: an after-school program for young people, like the ones that shaped us — where you learn about the world beyond the school halls. Emotional development. Social issues. Economics. The things that make you a more complete human, and push you to leave the world better than you found it. That first program never came together. So I found other ways to show up — a year with AmeriCorps' Jump Start program leading teacher assistants on Chicago's West Side, volunteering at food drives, packing care kits for kids in the hospital, mentoring youth, shoveling snow for elderly neighbors. With every hour I gave, I wished I could do more. And I never stopped dreaming about that mentoring program. That dream is now The Live Your Dreams Foundation. Our Mission To eliminate hunger, promote movement, and build self-sustaining communities through economic empowerment — delivered through mentoring, education, direct service, community banking, and philanthropy. Our Vision Through our three pillars, fighting food insecurity, housing affordability and youth development, we aim to show that these three seemingly separate issues are actually one big cycle that we will face head on. The ultimate goal is a community hub and resource center that fuels economic development, builds confidence and literacy in the youth we mentor, and restores collective pride in the neighborhoods we call home. This foundation is about living your dreams — and helping others live theirs. Every donation, every volunteer hour, gets us closer to leaving the world better than we found it.
